An automation rule checks your statistics on a schedule and acts on each source — the site the traffic comes from — inside the buy orders you link it to. Use rules to cut sources that spend without converting, or to bid more on the ones that pay off.
Note: Automation rules are switched on per account. If you don't see Automation rules in the platform, ask your account manager.
Before you start
Rules on conversions, eCPA, profit or ROI need conversion data. Set up conversion tracking first.
Create a rule
- Open Automation rules and start a new rule.
- Rule name — a label you'll recognise, up to 100 characters.
- Link to campaigns — the buy orders the rule watches.
- Statistics period — Last 30 days or Last 60 days, including today.
- Conditions — up to 5. The action runs only when all of them are met.
- Then perform action — what to do with each source that matches.
- Click Preview to see which sources match right now and what would happen to them.
- Save.
Conditions
Each condition compares a metric with a number using Greater than, Less than or Equals.
| Group | Metrics |
|---|---|
| Cost | Spend, eCPM |
| Conversions | Conversions, Conversions for one tracker, eCPA for one tracker |
| Performance | ROI, Profit, CTR, Last day win rate |
| Traffic | Clicks, Impressions |
For example: Spend greater than 20 and Conversions equals 0.
Actions
| Action | What happens to a matching source |
|---|---|
| Increase source bid / Decrease source bid | Its bid changes by the Adjustment value — a Percentage or a Fixed amount — but never goes past your Maximum bid (CPM ceiling) or Minimum bid (CPM floor) |
| Add source to blacklist / Add source to whitelist | It is added to the order's domain list. If the order has none, one is created and attached |
| Remove source from blacklist / Remove source from whitelist | It is removed from the order's domain list |
A Fixed amount changes the current bid by that amount — it doesn't set a new bid. Bids changed by a rule appear under Custom bids by source in the order, tagged auto.
When rules run
You don't pick a schedule — it follows the action:
- bid actions run once a day;
- list actions run every hour;
- rules that use Last day win rate run once a day.
Change or stop a rule
After saving, you can change which buy orders a rule is linked to, and turn it off or on with Disable rule / Enable rule. The rule's name, statistics period, action and bid limits are fixed: to change them, duplicate the rule, edit the copy, and disable the original.
